Ms. Grace Buenaventura conducts a workshop on basic archive principles

Our very own Archivist-Librarian, Grace Ann Buenaventura, facilitated a “Basic Training on Archives & Archival Processes” workshop on February 27, 2025 at the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library (AFTL).

Through the 2-day workshop, Ms. Grace shared the challenges and strategies of starting an archiving project and shared important anecdotes from her own experiences as Librarian-Archivist of the UP Center for Ethnomusicology as well as her other personal archiving projects. The two-day discussion was capped with hands-on activities on sorting, cleaning, inventorying, buffering, and rehousing of print materials from the personal archival collection of Dr. Florence Tadiar, who holds one of the longest records in developing and advocating for women’s sexual and reproductive health services and rights. The workshop was attended by enthusiastic participants who were Librarians, Information Professionals, Museologists, and Library and Information Studies students who shared their questions and insights.

The event was held on February 27 & 28, 2025 at the Alfredo F. Tadiar Library in Tanqui, City of San Fernando, La Union. The project was made possible through the support of the National Commission of Culture and the Arts through the “Building Up a Special Library in the North” project, which aims to strengthen our Special Collections, focusing on the Ilocos, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley regions.
